Here is a brief description of the traffic calming devices that have been suggested.
The idea is to encourage drivers to slow down and pay attention to their surroundings,
but without overly inconveniencing safe drivers or impeding emergency vehicles. Click on

You can see examples of traffic circles and bulbouts in Norman's
Cambridge Addition (west of 48th, just North of Main St.). The traffic
circles proposed for Cascade would be smaller while the bulbouts proposed
would be bigger.
| Speed Table |
| A raised section of the road surface, approximately twenty feet wide and three inches tall.
The exact dimensions are tuned so that a passenger car traveling 25 mph feels only a small
rise and fall, but cars travelling faster will feel a sharp jolt. It is kind of like a
highly evolved speed bump that is uncomfortable only for speeders. More Information

| Bulbout (Curb Extension) |
| The edges of the curb near an intersection are curved out into the roadway.
This narrows the lanes of traffic, forcing people to slow down and reducing the
distance that pedestrians must walk to cross the road. More Information

| Traffic Circle |
| A miniature round-about constructed by placing a small island in the middle of an
intersection which drivers must maneuver around. More Information

Ideally, these devices should be placed about 300 to 400 feet apart along the affected roads.
